A Briefing on Automation and Digitalization was held at Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur presided over by Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor. Sybird Lakson Group of Companies delivered presentation on automation and digitalization.

Talking to the participants, Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto said, it is need of the time that the important sections of the University be digitalized and automated in order to bring transparency , proper mechanism and delivery of the work effectively to save the time and money.

On this occasion, Sybird Lakson Group of Companies delivered presentation on different modules for the implementation of automation/digitalization of the important sections of the University Human Resource Management, Attendance, Examinations and Financial Management.   

Mr. Muneer Shah Rashdi, I.T Manager briefed the Sybird Lakson Group of Companies about the existing modules of automation to the house.

During the briefing, it was decided that existing automation modules will be integrated to new system. I.T Manager will prepare Request for Proposal to float the tendering process as per SPPRA rules. The representative of the Finance Wing, Examinations Wing, Registrar Office and I.T Wing attended the meeting.

DR. KHALIL IBUPOTO PRESIDES THE PH.D OPEN DEFENSE SEMINAR

Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur presided over the Ph.D Open Defense Seminar held in the Department of Botany, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur

Ph.D Research Scholar Mr. Najamuddin Solangi successfully defended his research work on the topic “Micropropagation of some Elite Cultivars of Date Palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) through Inflorescence Explants”, under the supervision of Prof. (Retd.) Dr. Ghulam Sarwar Markhand.  He said micropropagation is effective method for the elite varieties of Date Palm. These tissue plants are easy to transport. He said I have conducted my research at the Date Palm Research Institute on elite varieties i.e. Begum Jangi, Ajwa, and Aseel.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto  lauded the research work of the scholar which is well described. Dr. Khalil said it is need of time to check all the codal formalities prior to embark research because I firmly believe in systematic way in research. We will promote proper procedure and transparency at the campus. Dr. Ibupoto said Date Palm Research Institute is a prestigious institution, where we embark research on various tissue cultures i.e. Banana, Onion and other indigenous and elite varieties. We will equip scientifically this institute.

Dr. Ibupoto commented that I have will and determination to change the destiny of this University with the full cooperation and support of teachers to run the proper business of the University in order to further revive the image and perception and we will make this institution one of the best institution of the Northern Sindh, he added.

Prof. Dr. Ghulam Abbas Shar, Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences said that Botany is sound Department in terms of teaching and research. He advised the Chairman Department of Botany to submit a PC-I for its up-gradation as Institute.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Keerio, Principal, Khairpur College of Agriculture Engineering and Technology, Khairpur and Dr. Saeed Akhtar Abro, Assistant Professor, Institute of Plant Sciences, University of Sindh Jamshoro were the Experts. They said that the research work of the scholar is nice piece of work. The work is excellent and painstaking. They said research is continuous process. They stressed the need to provide same tissue of the Dates Palm to the local growers of the area.

Prof. (Retd.) Dr. Ghulam Sarwar Markhand said that the tissue culture of Date Palm is produce with the help of technology. He said it is one of the biggest industries of the world. Pakistan is 6th largest Date Palm producing country in the world. Dr. Markhand remarked that microprapogation is boundary less, so difficult and time consuming from 4 to 5 years to plant in the field. He appreciated the visionary leadership of Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto and said University will flourish under his leadership.

At the end, question answer session was held. The open defense was declared as successful. A large number of teachers and scholars attended the seminar.

PH.D OPEN DEFENSE SEMINAR HELD IN THE INSTITUTE OF MICROBIOLOGY

Ph.D Open Defense Seminar was held in the Institute of Microbiology, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur presided over by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto.

Ph.D Research Scholar Mr. Shafique Ahmed Rind successfully defended his research work on the topic “Bio-Ethanol Production by Thermotolerant and Chemotolerant Yeast from Sugar Substrates”, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Soomro and co-supervision of Dr. Agha Asad Noor. He said my research has impact for commercialization in the filed of Microbiology. Ethanol is the product of sugar. It will be used as transportation oil as bio fuel.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto said it is matter of immense pleasure for me in the galaxy of scholars to preside this first ever Ph.D Open Defense Seminar.

Dr. Ibupoto said that research start from lab, pilot and industrial perspective. We could contribute positively and prepare our labs with the sponsorship of Higher Education Commission, Pakistan Sciences Foundation and other prestigious research institutions.

Dr. Ibupoto remarked that the work of the research scholar is up to the mark for the benefit of the society. He said bio-ethanol is an alternative source of energy which could be used in autos and industrial sector. It is the need of the time that triangle research may be promoted based on University, funding agency and industries in order to strengthen the liaison.

Prof. Dr. Ghulam Abbas Shar, Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences briefed the Vice Chancellor about the research impact of the Faculty and appreciated the research work presented by the scholar.

Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Soomro, Supervisor and Dr. Agha Asad Noor, Co-supervisor commended the research work of the scholar which is valuable and will provide new avenues in the filed of Microbiology.

Dr. Nadir Ali and Dr. Farman Ali Shah, Experts emphasis that the research scholar after getting the Ph.D degree must opt his work as patent with HEC and they also appreciated the research work of the scholar.

DR. KHALIL IBUPOTO VISITS THE ACADEMIC BLOCK   

Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur paid a visit of new Academic Block constructed under the Strengthening of Academic Facilities (SAF) Project funded by the Higher Education Commission, Islamabad.

Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto narrated that we are committed to provide the modern facilities to the students in order to get quality education with excellence. Dr. Ibupoto advised the Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Imdad Hussain Sahito and Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences Prof. Dr. Ghulam Abbas Shar to convene a meeting with the concerned Heads of the Department of Allotment Committee to a lot the space for Departments at earliest on the basis of mutual consensus and cooperation so the process of allotment and shifting be made without any delay.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ibupoto also visited the security spots of the University to oversee the security arrangements to beef up the security apparatus and directed the Chief Security Officer to remain vigil on every spot.
