A One-Day Seminar on "In-Pond Raceways System (IPRS) Technology, Innovative Solution for Sustainable Commercial Agriculture in Pakistan" was held at Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur organized by the Department of Zoology in collaboration with Higher Education Commission's Technology Development Fund. Prof. Dr. Syed Maqsood Zia Shah, Pro- Vice Chancellor Ghotki Campus presided over the seminar. 
 
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Syed Maqsood Zia Shah said that the Fish is an important food in daily life. It is an imperative that Fish production could be improved with the help of latest techniques so we could eran local as well as foreign exchequer. It is need of the hour that the collaborative research may be embarked for the progressive production of the Fish. 
 
Dr. Maqsood Zia commended the untiring efforts of Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor for the capacity building of the Faculty Members and students at the Campus. 
 
Prof. Dr. Ghulam Abbas Shar, Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences shed light on the significance of Fish production and the various issues pertains to growers. He said that the progressive farmers, Fishries Department could play their due role for the farming of Fish. 
 
Mr. Muhammad Aslam Ansari, Deputy Director Fishries said Fish is main source of our food. It is very essential that we could promote the farming of Fish in agriculture sector so we could also earn exchequer for the better economy of our country. 
 
Resource Person of the Seminar Dr. Shafaq Fatima from RSN Janjua Industrial Partner and Associate Professor of Lahore College of Women University remarked that with the help of Pond Raceways System Technology and with the help of limited land, we could save the water resources because we are facing water scarcity.
 
Earlier, Prof. Dr. Abdul Manan Shaikh briefed the objectives of the Seminar. He said the recommendations of the Seminar will be presented to the policy makers so we could achieve the required targets pertaining to the Fish production in the country. 
 
The proceedings of the Seminar were conducted by Dr. Safdar Ali Ujjan.

A Condolence Reference was organized by the Shah Abdul Latif University Teachers’ Association (SALUTA) on the sad demise of Late Prof. Ahsan Ali Soomro, Department of Economics, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur chaired the reference.
Talking to the participants of the reference, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto remarked that Late Prof. Ahsan Ali Soomro was a role model for the society. He contributed a lot for the academic uplifting of the Department of Economics. He was the man of high integrity and good character. He produced talented students who are contributing in the society in positive way. Dr. Ibupoto paid rich tribute to the departed soul. He also suggested that on the platform of SALUTA, Teachers’ Trust may be established which supports the bereaved families of the teachers after their death. Dr. Ibupoto said it is my utmost priority to disburse the payment to the deceased family on the arrival of the appropriate funds and also to appoint the sons/daughters of the deceased quota as per rules and regulations.
Prof. Dr. Minhoon Khan Laghari, President SALUTA, Prof. Dr. Ikhtiar Ali Ghumro, General Secretary, SALUTA, Prof. Dr. Amir Ali Chandio, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Rahpoto, Prof. Dr. Amir Hussain Shar, Dr. Naveed Ahmed Shaikh, Mr. Ishrat Ali Mirani, Mr. Muhammad Hassan Shaikh, Dr. Siraj Soomro also shared their views on the life and achievements of Late Prof. Ahsan Ali Soomro. They said, Late Prof. Soomro was a good academician, sportsman, painter, poet and calligrapher. They said he was regular, punctual and dedicated teacher. He supported his family with care and love. He was the strong pillar of the Department of Economics.
They suggested that a memorial trust, roads and buildings may be dedicated in the late teachers who contributed in the academic development of the University.
A large number of teachers, officers and employees attended the reference. Soorah Fatiha was also offered for the departed soul.

PH. D OPEN DEFENSE SEMINAR WAS HELD IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PAKISTAN STUDIES 
 
Ph. D Open Defense Seminar was held in the Department of Pakistan Studies, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur presided over by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto. Ph. D Research Scholar Mr. Siraj Ahmed Soomro successfully defended his research on the topic “Democratic Elitism-Conflict and Consensus: An Analytical Study of General Pervez Musharraf Era 1999-2008” under the supervision of Prof. (Retd.) Dr. Imdad Hussain Sahito and co-supervision of Prof. Dr. Amir Ahmed Khuhro. 
 
 On this occasion, Mr. Siraj Ahmed Soomro said my research was focused on the General Pervez Musharraf Rule and Conflict faced by him during his tenure. He said however, General Musharraf tried to develop consensus on certain political issues wherein political elites sometime developed consensus and also sometime created conflict. These ups and downs of his rule were investigated during the course of my research work. He said there were four big challenges faced by him which were Pakistan not to become rogue state, Democratization, Poverty reduction and Militancy. 
 
Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto while delivering his presidential remarks said that the research work of the scholar is up to the mark and a novel work in the field of Pakistan Studies. This research work will pave the way for the policy makers and institutions. The scholar has portrayed the political scenario of that period. Dr. Ibupoto remarked that we are striving to provide better facilities to our research scholars in order to embark their research work on modern lines, he added. 
 
Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences remarked that the scholar has accomplished his research work in line with the minimum eligibility criteria laid down by the Higher Education Commission, Islamabad. He said the work of the research scholar will be a value-added for the Faculty of Social Sciences.   
 
Prof. (Retd.) Dr. Imdad Hussain Sahito, Prof. Dr. Syed Aftab Ahmed Gillani, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Farooque also shared their views on the research work presented by the scholar. They lauded the untiring efforts of incumbent Vice Chancellor Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto for the promotion of research culture at the campus. 
 
The proceedings of the seminar were conducted by Dr. Naveed Ahmed Shaikh, Director Postgraduate Studies. The seminar was declared successful.

CERTIFICATE DISTRIBUTION CEREMONY HELD 
 
A Certificates Distribution Ceremony was held at Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur which was jointly organized by the Marvi Rural Development Organization (MRDO) in collaboration with office of the Dean Faculty of Social Sciences under the project Raising Awareness through Community Engagement in Local Governance”. It is recalled that under this project, a close linkage between Local Government, Youth, Minority Women of local communities at the Union Council Ubhri was held. Under this project, extensive virtual training of 30 male and 30 female youth and 30 persons of minority from Union Council Ubhri availed training on Leadership, Social Skills, Gender Mainstreaming, Women Empowerment and  Sindh Transparency and Right to Information Act-2016, Sindh Local Government Act-2013 and Sindh Hindo Marriage Amendment Act-2018. 
 
Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur was the Chief Guest of the ceremony. Talking to the participants of the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto said that the Union Councils are the base line of democratic process because the basic democracy starts from Union Council level. He said the initiative taken by the MRDO is significant for creating awareness about the functions and duties of the Councilors because they are responsible to redress the grievances of the masses at grassroots level as far as Municipal Services are concerned.
