A meeting of the Organizing Committee of Three-Day International Conference on "Climate Change and Traditional Agriculture Pattern in Pakistan: Implication and Solution" being organized by the Department of Geography was held at Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur presided over by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto.
Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto said that agriculture production is one of the major challenges of the 21st Century in the era of global environmental problem such as climate change. In the current situation, climate change is a major threaten to agriculture sector. It has adverse effect on agro economic system. Agriculture is one of the largest sector that sustain livelihood.
The Vice Chancellor said that the Department of Geography is holding third consecutive international conference so it is matter of rejoice for me.
Dr. Noor Hassan Chandio, Incharge Department of Geography briefed the house that conference will be held on 26-28 October 2021 on various themes i.e. climate change and water crisis, climate change and agriculture pattern, water management and agriculture, flood and disasters, climate change and new seed varieties. He revealed that 55 scholars will present their research papers. Professors and Scholars from Egypt, China and Turkey will participate in the conference. During the inaugural ceremony, the Vice Chancellors of different Universities of Sindh will grace the occasion. At the Concluding Ceremony, Provincial Minister for Climate Change, Coastal Development and Universities & Boards Mr. Muhammad Ismail Raho will be the chief guest.
The pre- arrangements of conference were reviewed thoroughly in order to organize the conference in briefing manner. Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Hussain Mahar, Dean Faculty of Physical Sciences, Prom Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Amir Ali Chandio, Prof. Dr. Qasid Mallah, Dr. Naveed Ahmed Shaikh, Mr. Mureed Hussain Ibupoto, Registrar, Syed Muneer Shah, I.T Manager and Members of Organizing Committee attended the meeting.
A session on how to write a research proposal was held by the Institute of Gender Studies and Department of Sociology. The speaker and facilitator of the session was Dr. Agha Nadia, PhD University of York, Director, Institute of the Gender Studies. She has wide range of knowledge and skills in writing research papers and getting published several research papers in international and well reputed journals. She often conduct virtual and physical session to improve and refine writings and research skills among scholars and students.
Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Taj Mohammad Lashari was also invited as a chief guest who also distributed certificates among the participants. Speaking to the occasion, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences asserted that such type of research related session could play vital role in disseminating research skills among the scholars. He further added that there was a great loophole in research and development work due to the fact that scholars and researchers were not given a proper platform and continued guidance to build their research capacity.
Prof. Dr. Taj Lashari commended the unprecedented contribution of Dr. Agha Nadia, Director, the institute of gender studies, for the promotional of academic and research culture within the campus. Such sessions are very rare in our university and this is why many research scholars lacked modern technique to conduct a research, he added.
Dr. Lashari commended the effort of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor for the promotion of research activities at the campus.
At the end, the certificates were distributed among the participants of training session.
The session was also attended by Dr. Santosh Kumar, Chairman Department of Sociology, MS Maria Metlo, Assistant Professor department of Media and Communication Studies and a large number of research scholars and students from various departments of SALU.
The International Hand Washing Day Celebrated at Model School of Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur in collaboration with District Health Office, Khairpur and Al-Shifa Trust. Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto Vice Chancellor Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur presided over the event while Dr. Muhammad Baqir Jatoi, District Health Officer, Khairpur was the Chief Guest on this occasion.
Talking to the teacher and students of the Model School, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto said that this day is being celebrated worldwide to encourage, motivate and mobilize the masses to improve their hand washing practice because this is a healthy activity and it prevents a shield against the germs. Dr. Ibupoto remarked that with the practice of hand washing with soaps, we could also contain the respiratory and intestinal diseases also. The Vice Chancellor said by organizing this healthy activity, it will create awareness among the teacher and students of the School to adopt safe life style. Vice Chancellor commended the efforts of Principal Model School Madam Ghazala Qureshi for organizing this event.
Dr. Baqir Jatoi, District Health Officer, Dr. Fozia Qureshi, Health Officer also spoke on this occasion. They stressed to promote the health and hygiene education so the community and students could work in healthy condition. They said that hand can kill you and save you.
Principal Model School Madam Ghazala Qureshi briefed the Vice Chancellor that every year, this day is being celebrated at the School to promote and develop hand washing habit among the teachers and students of the School. She also apprised the Vice Chancellor about the academic progress of the School.
On this occasion, hand wash activity was also performed by the students.
Prof. Dr. Chandan Lal Rohra, Pro-Vice Chancellor Shahdadkot Campus, teachers and a large number of students attended the event.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked between Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur and Centre for Health and Gender Equality (CHANGE). Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur and Mr. Mumtaz Hussain, Executive Director CHANGE signed the MoU.
Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto said that Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur has central place in Sindh Province, imparting quality education at affordable cost. Dr. Ibupoto remarked that we are working with various organizations having national and international repute to equip the students for their capacity building. Dr. Ibupoto appreciated the endeavor of Centre for Health and Gender Equality (CHANGE) for the promotion of co-curricular activities and trainings at various Universities of Pakistan.
Mr. Mumtaz Hussain, Executive Director CHANGE commended the tangible efforts of Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto for the promotion of education, research and capacity building of the students. He said the MoU aimed at to implement the project “Engaging Faculty Members, Hostel Community and Students at this University for peace promotion”. The CHANGE is organizing trainings on peace, leadership skills, peace building and governance.
The multipurpose activities will be conducted under this project i.e. Seminars, Trainings for Faculty Members, Students Mobilization Seminars etc.
