A One-Day Training Workshop on Model CCI: Debating Democratic Devolution was held at Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur organized by the Department of Political Science in collaboration with Hanns Seidel Foundation, Pakistan. Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor presided over the workshop.

Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto said that the Council of Common Interests (CCI) is a constitutional forum established under 1973 Constitution. The purpose of this August body is to foster the consensus, unity and to resolve the issues of national interests. He said, it is high time that unity of federation must be promoted and protected. He said I am optimistic that the students of this Department will learn a lot from this fruitful workshop. Our students are enthusiastic to learn and to pursue their education. Today I witnessed that students are eagerly taking their classes after long span of closure of educational institution in the wake of the COVID-`19.

Dr. Ibupoto stressed the students to utilize your energies for the unity of the federation and to take part in the national integration and patriotism and love with the country.

Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences shed light on the significance of the Council of Common Interests. He said the prime object of CCI is to harmonize the relations among the federating units. He said CCI will strengthen the democratic approach among the provinces.

Prof. Dr. Amir Ali Chandio, Chairman Department of Political Science welcomed the guests and briefed the objectives of the workshop. He appreciated the untiring efforts of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto for providing a viable platform for the students to equip them with the modern technology, skills, trends, discourse and dialogue.

Renowned Journalist, Anchor Person and Scholar Mr. Jami Chandio was the Master Trainer/Resource Person of the workshop. He remarked that we should follow the good traditions of the developed federal states. He said that the CCI is being restructured and with the help of CCI we will avail the opportunities to minimize the differences among the provinces. He said CCI is consensus, common strong forum. He also shed light on the history of federalism.

Mr. Lal Zaman, Representative of Hanns Seidel Foundation said that Model CCI is not a zero-sum debate of dominance and conflict but a cooperative and coalitional debate. He said this workshop is aimed at to prepare the students for the simulation and give them an introduction to the political and theoretical foundation of Pakistan Federal System. He announced that the participants of this University level debate will be given certificates. The five best students of this level will be sent to the Federal or National level round.
