EXTENSION LECTURE ON “GPS BASED GEO-TAGGING” HELD

The Department of Geography, Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur Mirs’ Sindh organized an extension lecture program on “Global Position System (GPS) Based Geo-Tagging” Delivered by Dr. Zawar Hussain Shah Manager GIS, Sui Sothern Gas Company, Karachi Sindh.

The Speaker briefed about the GPS and common use of GPS for collection data, furthermore, Dr Zawar explained that how can we merge that the coordinates and utilize in GIS. Geo-tagging is the process of attaching location information in the form of geographical metadata to digital media like web sites, videos, and photographs. Geo-tags may also be applied to digital output and communications such as tweets or status updates on social media. It’s powered by the global positioning system (GPS) or satellite positioning used by your system, and based on the position and co-ordinates of the metadata, geo-tagging may be used to find location-specific destinations (e.g. shops and restaurants) or web sites and online resources. The information included in a geo-tag may include place co-ordinates (latitude and longitude), bearings, altitude, distances, or even place names.

At end of the Program Dr. Noor Hussain Chandio, Chairman, Department of Geography, Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur thanked to guest speaker and said that Department of Geography will organize further lecture series for the betterment of students.

Dr. Naila Parveen Abbasi, Mr. Nisar Ahmed Khand, Mr. Amjad Ali Maitlo, Mr. Naveed Noor Chandio, and large number of students were present during the lecture program.
