A Three-Day International Conference on Climate Change and Traditional Agriculture Pattern in Pakistan: Implications & Solutions organized by the Department of Geography, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur in collaboration with Sindh Higher Education Commission, Karachi, Fatima Fertilizer Company Limited and Roots for Equity concluded today. Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor presided over the concluding ceremony of the conference. Dr. Waqar Hussain Phulpoto, Director General, Sindh Environmental Protection Agency was the chief guest of the concluding ceremony. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Keerio, Principal, Govt. Agriculture College, Khairpur and Prof. Dr. Ishfaque Ahmed Khan from Turkey were the guests of honor.

While delivering his presidential address, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto said that climate change affects agricultural seriously because agriculture depends on specific climate conditions. Temperature changes can cause habitat changes and may cause shift in planting dates in our region. These changes bring droughts and floods. The vice Chancellor further said that the climate change may hinder farming practices. He said the topic is very much important in light of research. It will pave the way for new researchers. Dr. Ibupoto said that we are promoting quality research along with education at University. He remarked that the research papers presented by the scholars are up to the mark and will be very helpful for the policy makers in framing the policies regarding climate change.

Dr. Ibupoto congratulated the organizers of the International Conference on organizing this event in befitting manner.

Dr. Waqar Hussain Phulpoto said that a climate change is a universal fact which has badly affected the agriculture globally. It is process of changes in the frequency and intensity of precipitation, heat waves, and other extreme occurrences which impact on agriculture at large. He said that Climate change is producing numerous hazards and agriculture sector is adversely affected including live stock. He opined that the experts may focus on its mitigation and may devise effective strategies. He suggested that a Memorandum of Understanding may be inked on Climate Change and Traditional Agriculture Pattern and Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur like other Universities.

Dr. Noor Hussain Chandio, Incharge, Department of Geography accorded special thanks to the distinguished guests, research scholars, foreign and national delegates, sponsors and participants of the conference.

At the end, the shields and certificates were distributed among the participants of the conference. The Deans of various Faculties, Heads of Teaching and Administrative Departments, Professors, Teachers, Research Scholars and a large numbers of Students attended the ceremony.
