Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur called on M. Jamil A. Qureshi, Director General Board of Investment (BOI) at Islamabad.
People's Assembly on Sustainable Development through Green Financing held at Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur jointly organized by the Marvi Rural Development Organization (MRDO) in collaboration with Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur and Indus Consortium. Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari Dean Faculty of Social Sciences presided over the event.
Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari said with the increased share of renewable for energy solutions at community and industrial needs with sustainable finance by public and private sector will help to mitigate the climate effects and reduce it's adverse impact for marganalized segments of the society as well as to ensure sustainable development in Pakistan. Dr. Lashari commended the untiring efforts of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto for promoting the co-curricular activities at the campus and also lauded the efforts of MRDO for the capacity building of the community and youth.
Advocate Manzoor Hussain Larik, Dean Faculty of Law siad it is the institutional responsibility to implement the laws to curb the menace of degradation because it is need of the time that strict legislation may be made for the better friendly environment. He said though it is collective responsibility of all state organs be forwarded to plant trees so the adverse impact of climate change may be mitigated.
Dr. Noor Hassan Chandio, Incharge Department of Geography said that mashroom growth of urbanization has created environmental degradation, uneven town planning has adversely affected the environment. The agriculture land is being shrunked day by day.
Mr. Mushtaque Hussain Soomro, Deputy Director Agriculture Khairpur said that the climate change has adversely affected the yeild of the crops owing to lake of forestation. There is acute shortage of rain fall.
Dr. Inayatullah Bhatti, Incharge Department of Pakistan Studies said that if we will not control the uneven planning of the housing societies as result in our area we will face the shortage of good quality of Khairpur dates.
Mr. Ali Raza Lashari also shared his views that tree plantation may be launched as campaign jointly by individuals and institutions.
Mr. Hassan Jarwar, CEO Indus Consortium and Ms. Faiza Qureshi appreciated the current government which has considerably increased climate related budget Rs. 412 Million in 2018- 2019 while Rs. 8075 Million in the year 2019-20.
Mr. Salman Ali Program Manager MRDO said that State Bank of Pakistan may ask banks to adhere the green banking guidelines and don't fund any project which potentially could harm environment. He suggested that wind and solar projects may be encouraged.
At the end, the participants re-afirmed the commitment for the protection of plants and echo system.
