WORLD FOOD DAY OBSERVED AT SALU
In a bid to observe the “World Food Day” on October 16, 2020, a seminar was organized by Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur in collaboration with Bhittai Social Watch & Advocacy (BSWA) at Peace Corner SALU. Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor presided over the seminar while Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Keerio, Principal, Agriculture Engineering & Technology College, Khairpur was the chief guest.
Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto lauded the contribution of BSWA for organizing a number of positive activities on campus to engage the students in peace related activities i.e. dialogue, training, workshops, seminar and research papers. I firmly believe in mutual trust and respect for everyone. Dr. Ibupoto added I am determined to deliver my responsibilities to uplift the image of University. He said peace is a major part of society and it is also related with the food, in the absence of food there is no peace in human life.
The Vice Chancellor said that the main objective of the day is to spread awareness and sensitization about the prevailing problems of food the world is confronting presently. Growing population is also serious challenge which has created scarcity of food; as a result, the sizeable population is under starvation and hunger.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Keerio said that I am extremely thankful to Dr. Khalil Ibupoto who invited me to share my views on the theme of the day “Grow, Nourish, Sustain together: Our actions are our future”. Dr. Keerio said food contains different ingredients i.e. vitamins, minerals etc as need for human survival. He quoted that the millions of the people more than 31% population of Africa is facing severe starvation and hunger, as a result there is high mortality rate in children. He said that other factors are also very essential for food stock which includes air, abundant water resources, forests and rain. The food productivity could be increased with the help of modern technology and tools for example drip water system and crop pattern.
Mr. Khadim Hussain Mirani, Executive Director BSWA shed light on the objectives of BSWA and briefed the salient features of the working of BSWA on multilateral projects by empowering youth in the promotion of peace, dialogue and harmony.
Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Director Media & Public Relations, accorded vote of thanks to guests and participants.
Mr. Muhammad Hassan Shaikh, Focal Person of the Project conducted proceedings of the seminar.
At the end, the guests were decorated with the traditional Sindhi Ajraks. The certificates were also distributed among the Peace Ambassadors i.e. students.
